We believe that words matter.  That when it comes to ideas, a hundred words is worth a thousand pictures.  That while brevity is good, readability is everything.

That’s why, unlike graphics shops, we start with the words.  We adapt our layouts to suit the contents, not the other way around.

In our family histories, we aim for a clean, understated style.  (Several family-history pages are reproduced on this site, sized so that you can read them.)

We’re nimble, though.  You’ll note that the writing style of those family-history pages is in sharp contrast to the boosterism of our Web site, with its partial sentences, noticeable parallel structures, alliteration, and the like.  That’s one way you can know that we’ll follow your preferences when we write your project--we write to suit the setting.

We’re also flexible with presentation.  Perhaps you want anecdotes in the captions instead of the text.  Perhaps you want birth and death dates woven into the text--or in bullet points, in a sidebar, in full-width, triple-column boxes.  No problemo.

More importantly, we focus on what matters most to you.  Are there pioneers in your past?  We’ll write to inspire.  Influential ancestors?  We’ll put their success in the context of their times.  For a tight-knit clan, we’ll play up common bonds.  It’s your family--your unique family--that makes the project what it is.

Text doesn’t occur in isolation.  For that tight-knit clan, the family ties could be emphasized in any number of ways.  We can use a running header or footer with an image of the family lake house. We can include generation-by-generation maps showing how siblings kept, literally, close.

That brings us back to design and layout.  If hazel eyes run in your family, we can use a hazel-like color in the design.  If you’re into modernist furniture, we’ll give you a clean-edged design with lots of white space.  Because we believe that style counts too.  Take a look at our Web site’s layouts, and you’ll see what we mean.
